The duke of Lan-cafter afked him of the prince, who confented, and ordered him. to be given up to the duke, for him to do with him according as he willed. The bifhop having good friends, they fent information of his fituation to the pope, who had lately ar-rived at Avignon ; and fortunate was it for the bifhop they did fo, otherwife he would have been a dead man. The pope wrote fuch preffing and kind letters to the duke of Lancafter, to requefl he would give him the bifhop, that he was un-willing to refufe, and fent him to the pope, who felt himfelf exceedingly obliged for it.
