of Cambridge fhould embark of Portugal with five hundred fpears and as many archers ; and if the duke of Lancafter could manage the Scots, and, without difhonouring England, conclude a truce for three years, he might go likewiffc, if the king approved of it in council, about Auguft or Sep-, tember, to Portugal to reinforce the army of his brother. There was another reafon why the duke of Lancafter ought to remain in England ; the king had fent ambaffadors, with the duke of Saxony and the archbifhop of Ravenna, to the emperor of Germany, to demand his fifter m marriage and to obtain his anfwer ; for there had been great nego» tiations on this fubjeft fbt; upwards of a year. The bifhop of St. David's and fir Simon Burlcy were the ambaffadors, on the part of England, to affift and bring it to a conclufion. The king and his lords agreed to this determin-ation, when the parliament broke up.
