CHAP. XLVHI. THE DUKE OF BERRY, BEING DISAPPOINTED IN HIS MARRIAGE WITH THE DAUGHTER OF THE DUKE OF LANCASTER, SENEiS TO THE COUNT DE FOIX TO • DEMAND THE DAUGHTER OF • THE COUNT DE BOULOGNE, WHOM HE HAD IN WARDSHIP. THE duke of Berry, having been difappoiuted in marrying the daughter of the duke of Lancafter, was told that the count de Boulogne had a beautiful daughter called Jane, by the lady Eleanor de Commingeç; that flie was not with her father nor mother,, but in the country of Beam with his good friend pud confia the count de Foix ; that fhe had been educated by the count, in his caftie of Orthès, for the fpace of nine years, and he had the wardfhip of all her property ; and that the father and mother had not any way interfered fince fhe had been under the care of the count, nor had the young lady coft them any thing ; that fhe had been often demanded in marriage, but the count de Foix had turned a deaf ear, faying, fhe was yet too young, and in particular by fir Bernard, brother to the count d* Armagnac, whu had repeatedly prefled the matter, promifing, on the accom-plifhment of this marriage, to put an end to his war on Beam and Ms daims on thai country.
