-m ^vith Sauvagé*s edition extended but to the firft two volumes. There is, it is true, an exact collation juft begun of this third volume extant, but only of the firft three chapters, as far as page eight, of which hereafter. It were to be wifhed that the deviations of the text on the miffing leaves had been as little numerous as thofe of the firft volume. As it is, we muft content ourfêlves with Sauvage's text until this uncertainty fhall have been removed in future by a foreign manufcript; concerning which, however, it muft previoufly be proved that it has a fimilar text with ours. For this purpoie, alfb, the two following extracts may be of ufe. Conclufion of the 98th leaf of die manufcript of 44 lines, in Sauvage, vol iii. p. 92. lin. 12. to lin. 29. * Vray eft,* &c. (39) Now there is fomethmg wanting in p. 92. lin. 29. from the words 5f 4 que vous me parlez,' as fer as page 96. lin. 15. to the words « auint cette hiftoire.' Thefe are 207 printed lines, 535 lines of the manufcript, or feven pages and a half, fo that a drawing, and probably a large one, has been loft. The 103d leaf, becatue of the large initial, begins with a new chapter, the title of which, from the prefixed contents, is as follows : • Comment,' &c. (40) So much for the firft 29 lines of the 103d leaf. I muft remark, that in this volume, each page has only 35 lines. «
