Peter du Bois, not-withftanding he had a fine army, could not give them the fmalleft afiiftance, on account of the marfhes and ftagnant waters which were between him and the earl's army. .
He marched ^away with his men drawn up ia order of battle, faying to them,—c Come, let us proceed flowly towards Ghent. Raffe de Harcelle and John de Launoy have had very bad fuccefs ; they are defeated. I know not what may happen to us, if we Ihould be purfued, and attacked by the earl's army : let us keep in a body and combat boldly, as good men Ihould do when they fight for
